Chief Leonard Angers
The Holyoke Firefighters Local 1693 regrets to announce the passing of Former Fire Chief Leonard Angers, 87, died at his home in Camarillo, California on October 7, 2015. Leonard was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts to Stanley and Lillian Angers on February 20, 1928. His beloved sister, Claire Witkos is the last of eight siblings that is still living. Leonard served our country with distinction in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had a distinguished 34-year career with Holyoke Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become Chief. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Phyllis (Hirt) Angers, sister, Claire Witkos, son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Angers, daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Robert Larson, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. His son, Douglas preceded him in death. Leonard will be buried at Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke, Massachusetts with no formal services.
